Dr. Edwards'

Career

A living history of roles, institutions and the problems solved along the journey.

June 2025 — Present

Informatics Scientist (NGS / Antibody Screening)

Meso Scale Diagnostics — Gaithersburg, MD

Translate published literature into novel features and actionable algorithms, using unsupervised clustering and advanced clustering methods to build reproducible, confidence-scored process features.

Built an R Shiny proof-of-concept for the antibody-screening group — epitope mapping, cross-sample consensus, filtering, point-and-select — and work dynamically across several groups on large projects.

May 2020 — June 2025

Graduate Scientist (Next-Gen Sequencing / Proteomic)

Marten Lab, University of Maryland, Baltimore County — Baltimore, MD

Developed genetic programming algorithms (MATLAB, GPTIPS) using proteomic/transcriptomic data for systems biology network inferencing, and used random forest for genotype-to-phenotype inverse design (Python, Scikit-Learn).

Led a team building dashboards for time-dynamic NGS and proteomic data, wrote a novel bioinformatic pipeline for it, and validated results against other methods and RT-qPCR-confirmed ground truth in A. nidulans. Earned a PhD in Biochemical Engineering, 2025 — see the Portfolio page for full detail and publication links.

Sept 2018 — May 2020

Graduate Scientist (Genetic Engineering)

Xu Lab, University of Maryland, Baltimore County — Baltimore, MD

Developed a kinetic model and MATLAB dashboard for a synthetic biology carbon control system, and engineered sulfur metabolism in Y. lipolytica to build a colorimetric genetic marker.

Characterized multiplex gene-editing efficiency using a CRISPR/Cas12 system, and used Benchling to design primers, target PAM sites, and run in-silico DNA gels — earned an M.S. in Biochemical Engineering, 2020.

2015 — 2018

B.S. Chemical Engineering & B.S. Molecular Biology

University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Dual degree. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certified, 2018.
